The umbrella should be five feet larger than the table. For example, a 30 inch table should have a 6 foot umbrella. Here are some useful guidelines.

5-foot Umbrella covers a 12 inch table
6-foot Umbrella - covers a 30 inch table
7-foot Umbrella - covers a 36 inch table
9-foot Umbrella – covers a 48 inch table
11-foot Umbrella - covers a 60 inch table
