Market Umbrellas
Have you ever been to a quaint or authentic feeling market? This is one of those markets that have lots of local people gathered as vendors. Some people sell fresh fruits and vegetables, while others sell unique items like duck tape wallets and purses. When you come to one of these markets you get a certain feeling that you don’t get from your trip to Wal-Mart or Target. It’s more authentic because you are connecting to local artisans.
These artisans usually sit out in the sun all day long. This is uncomfortable and so what you often see are a lot of market umbrellas lining the streets. There are umbrellas to eat at and others just to shade vendors. The variety of shapes and sizes of umbrellas really adds to the feel of the marketplace.
What exactly is a market umbrella? A market umbrella will be easily transportable and it may connect to a table through a hole and go into a metal base. Some market umbrellas are offset. This means they can move with the sun. An overhead umbrella won’t shade properly the entire day.
The pole of the umbrella is often made out of wood or fiberglass. The more elegant looking umbrellas are usually made out of wood.
Larger umbrellas give more shade, but are slightly harder to transport.
The material of the umbrella is usually silk screen printed with the company logo. Many vendors like a personalized umbrella to advertise their business. In addition, due to heavy use most market umbrellas are made of nylon or synthetic materials. Sunbrella is also a popular and well built fabric of choice. Natural fiber umbrellas are better for looks and light use (in most cases).
