Umbrella Base

The base is often a forgotten part of purchasing a patio umbrella.  We choose the umbrella based on size, color, and features, but don’t think about the base.  Many people actually get home before they realize they didn’t get the base.

The base is important because it is what holds the umbrella up and in place.
Different types of umbrellas require different types of bases.

Beach Umbrella
The beach umbrella should have a sand auger base or a plastic base that can be filled with sand.

Market Umbrella
You should get as heavy a base as possible for stability.  Market umbrella bases should be chosen based on the look and weight of the base.

Recreation Umbrella Base

For recreation it is good to have a steel base.  Steel is light and strong yet will do a pretty good job of supporting the umbrella.  In addition, a steel base is sturdy.  The steel base will have legs that push down into the dirt or sand for stability.  One steel recreation base can actually be used to hold a fishing pole, umbrella, or both.
